Manual EDI Processing Delays
Manually handling EDIFACT files caused delays and errors in container tracking and operational workflows.
GeestLine is a well-established shipping company that has been connecting trade routes between the United Kingdom and the Caribbean for over 60 years. Operating weekly departures from Portsmouth in the UK and Le Havre in France, the company transports a wide range of cargo, from agricultural goods such as bananas to machinery and general freight. As one of the leading cargo transport providers between Europe and the Windward and Leeward Islands, GeestLine plays a vital role in enabling international trade across the Atlantic.
GeestLine aimed to modernize its cargo operations by automating EDI message processing and integrating it directly with its Microsoft Dynamics ERP system. The organization wanted to eliminate manual handling of shipping documents such as COARRI and CODECO messages, improve real-time container tracking, and streamline communication with billing agents. By implementing a scalable integration framework, GeestLine sought to enhance operational efficiency, ensure accurate data processing, and support growing shipping volumes across its international routes.

Manually handling EDIFACT files caused delays and errors in container tracking and operational workflows.
Shipping messages such as COARRI and CODECO needed to be converted from EDIFACT format into XML before being submitted to the ERP system.
Extracting EDI files from emails and identifying relevant attachments was inefficient and difficult to scale as message volumes increased.
The organization struggled to process outbound ERP messages, extract XML files from the Dynamics 365 message queue, and route them to the correct agents.
Maintaining agent contact details and routing documents correctly became increasingly difficult as the agent count grew.
NeosAlpha helps logistics providers implement Boomi-powered EDI integrations for real-time cargo visibility and efficient shipping operations.
Book A Free Consultation CallNeosAlpha implemented an end-to-end Boomi integration framework to retrieve COARRI and CODECO EDIFACT messages from email sources and automatically transform them into XML format for ERP submission.
Boomi’s IMAP connector was configured to automatically filter incoming emails by subject line and environment indicators, such as test or production. This ensured only relevant messages were processed.
Using Boomi’s mapping components and custom logic, the container status and movement direction fields were transformed according to business rules. EDIFACT data was converted into structured XML for ERP compatibility.
The solution is integrated directly with Dynamics 365 to enable real-time updates of container status and operational data. XML payloads were wrapped in JSON and Base64-encoded to meet ERP integration requirements.
Boomi workflows were implemented to automatically identify Bill of Lading messages from Dynamics 365 message queues. The system extracted, processed, and routed XML files to the appropriate billing agents based on predefined mapping rules.
Developed a scalable mapping system to manage agent contact information. Party ID–based routing ensured shipping documents were delivered to the appropriate recipients without manual intervention.
The integration included automated queue processing within Dynamics 365 to prevent duplication and ensure message accuracy. The system automatically marked completed transactions as processed to maintain workflow integrity.

Automated EDI processing significantly reduced manual effort and accelerated document handling.
The solution processes more than 300 CODECO files per week while ensuring the timely handling of COARRI messages.
Automated transformation and mapping reduced submission errors and improved container tracking accuracy.
XML documents are now automatically extracted and delivered to the correct billing agents, eliminating manual distribution.
The scalable integration framework supports dynamic data retrieval from Microsoft Dynamics and enables expansion as shipping operations grow.
