Business Goals of Wolseley

Wolseley Group is a leading specialist provider of plumbing, heating, cooling, and utility products for trade customers. Operating under several renowned brands, they have around 650 branches nationwide, three centres of excellence in the utility sector, support centres in Warwick and Ripon, and four distribution centres. Wolseley comprises several business units and brands, each specialising in their respective sectors. They are one of the most comprehensive specialist providers, offering the widest range of services to trade, direct, and contract customers in the UK and Ireland.

As Wolseley continues to grow and digitise its business processes, they sought to optimise their API management to enhance scalability, security, and customer experience. They wanted to prepare their API Gateway architecture for future needs to streamline partner and customer onboarding along with adopting effective API monetisation strategies. Also, they required a seamless migration to Apigee X. All these objectives were aligned with their ultimate goal of digital transformation to enhance customer and partner experience.

Challenges Faced by Wolseley

With a rapidly growing digital landscape and increasing demand for seamless integrations, Wolseley needed to reorganise its API strategy to cope with current and future demands. There was also a need to streamline partner and customer API onboarding while ensuring that their platform adhered to best practices in security, scalability, and performance.

    • Non-functional requirements (e.g., performance, reliability, and security) were carefully documented and aligned with Wolseley’s goals.

    • A robust security framework was defined, ensuring secure authentication and authorisation across all API endpoints.

    • To enhance Wolseley’s customer and partner experience, we’ve worked with Wolseley Business Analysts and developed a seamless onboarding process using the Apigee developer portal. This ensured that partners and customers could easily access, develop, and integrate with Wolseley’s APIs.
  2. API Monetisation Strategy:
    • NeosAlpha worked closely with Wolseley to define a roadmap for API monetisation, providing strategies for introducing volume-based, transaction-based, or revenue-sharing models for partners.
